Dunoon & Argyll’s Wildlife.
There is an array of unique wildlife to be seen in Scotland, more specifically in and around Dunoon.
Along The Promenade of the East & West Bay it’s a good area to look for Oyster Catchers, Herons and Curlews amongst the other various ducks, gulls & waders. Along the West Bay live a large number of Geese.
Locally in Dunoon and the surrounding area we have Red Squirrels, Herons, Seals, Red Deer, Otters and not too far away Golden Eagles. A 15 minute walk from us is the picturesque Bishop’s Glen. Red Squirrels live here, as do Jays and Roe Deer. On and around the reservoir Mallards, Goldeneye, Little Grebe and a Grey Heron usually sits at one end lording over his kingdom watching and waiting to catch his next meal.
Black Grouse have been sighted in the Dunoon area. Hen Harriers around the golf course & at Glendaruel. Pine Marten in Innellan & Morags Fairy Glen. Golden Eagles at Glen Fyne & Glen Masson. Portavadie is a good place to look for Sea Eagles.
Nearby Benmore Botanic Gardens hosts 150 year old giant Redwoods, Rhododendrons, Red Squirrels to name a few.
There are no guarantees to which wildlife can be seen on a particular visit but the main thing is the animals & birds are living in this area.
